Project Oxygen

Nepal has been starkly hit by a second wave of covid pandemic which has exposed the broken healthcare system of Nepal. Nevertheless, it should be noted that even the developed countries from Europe and the US struggled to fight against the overwhelming growth of infected people during peak times. While other countries opted for mass testing and mass vaccination, Nepal chose a completely different path and the consequence is right in front of us now. Even more saddening fact is there seem to be neither short term nor long term intervention for the surging case. The acute oxygen shortage is one of the major contemporary problems. During this frightening condition, Design Lab has been working hard to tackle the multi-facet oxygen shortage challenge. The team has already developed a prototype that can extract oxygen from the atmosphere and concentrate it potentially upto 95% oxygen.

The PROJECT OXYGEN is an initiative to develop an Oxygen generation/concentration system that can work along with respiratory assist devices to help patients breathe.

Project OXYGEN has been planned in different phases:

Phase I: Identification of the parts, suppliers & assembly of available parts for concentrator

Phase II: Testing & Validation I (Lab & Clinical)

Phase III: Integrating concentrator with the Respiratory Assist Device

Phase IV: Dissemination I

Phase V: Scale up to Mini Oxygen generator Plant

Phase VI: Dissemination II
