One Student One Hand Initiative

(2018-2023)

The One Student One Hand Initiative was a project run from 2018 to 2023 by Kathmandu University’s Design & Manufacturing students in partnership with eNable Nepal. The project’s goal was to give students hands-on experience in 3D modeling, 3D printing, and assembly by having them design and build mechanical prosthetic hands for children with upper limb differences. The initiative successfully trained students in using CAD tools and 3D printers and then distributed the finished devices to children in need. This project not only developed students’ technical skills but also created a sustainable model for community-driven assistive technology production, showing how academic institutions can help address local healthcare needs.
